“Wide Open” by Photographer Solenne Spitalier

Solenne Spitalier’s?series, “Wide Open,” feels especially relevant as we near the end of a year that has been physically isolating for so many. Exploring themes of longing, touch and care, the recent Wesleyan University grad draws from memory, trauma, and reconstruction of childhood in the making of the series. “I am interested in magnifying mundane moments,” she explains, “such as a the warmth of the sun or a haircut that may appear simple at first, but on closer inspection can act as replacements for physical affection.” Blending the emotional and physical to create a fabric of intimacy, Spitalier’s images speak to the tension between moments of contact and moments of isolation.
